Purpose
Ellite is dedicated to providing a safe, reliable, and secure ride-sharing experience for all users, with special considerations for teenage passengers (ages 14–17). This Teen Safety Policy outlines specific measures to protect teen riders, ensuring their safety and peace of mind while using our platform.
- Eligibility and Account Setup
- Age Restrictions: Teen accounts are available for users aged 14–17, with parental or guardian consent required during account creation.
- Parental Oversight: Parents/guardians must verify their identity and link their account to the teen’s account to monitor trips and receive notifications.
- Account Limitations: Teen accounts are restricted from certain features, such as late-night rides (e.g., 10 PM–5 AM) or rides to high-risk areas, unless explicitly authorized or accompanied by a parent/guardian.
- Driver Screening and Training for Teen Rides
- Enhanced Background Checks: Drivers eligible to transport teens undergo additional vetting, including deeper criminal background checks and child safety screenings, renewed every six months.
- Specialized Training: Drivers complete mandatory training on handling teen passengers, including age-appropriate communication, recognizing distress, and responding to emergencies involving minors.
- Driver Selection: Only highly rated drivers (4+ stars).
- Teen Safety Features
- Trip Verification: Teens must confirm the driver’s name, photo, vehicle make/model, and license plate via the app before entering the vehicle. The app provides an OTP which must be provided to the driver to confirm the identity driver who accepted the ride. If the driver does not request the OTP, or there is an issue with the OPT and the ride before starting the ride, the teen must not get in the car.
- Teens can add their family member or guardian contact number in their app profile for ease of quick access.
- Real-Time Parental Monitoring: Parents/guardians receive real-time trip updates, including driver details, route, and estimated arrival time.
- Emergency Button: The app includes a prominent emergency button connecting teens to 24/7 support or local authorities. Teens are prompted to confirm their safety during the ride via in-app check-ins.
- Route Deviation Alerts: If a driver deviates significantly from the planned route, both the teen and parent/guardian receive an immediate alert, with follow-up from our safety team.
- Community Standards for Teen Rides
- Zero-Tolerance for Misconduct: Any inappropriate behaviour, including harassment, discrimination, or unsafe conduct by drivers or teens, results in immediate account suspension and investigation.
- No Solo Pickups for Unverified Teens: Drivers are prohibited from picking up teens without parental or guardian consent or company.
- Substance-Free Policy: Drivers and teens are strictly prohibited from using alcohol, drugs, or tobacco during rides, with violations leading to permanent bans.
- Incident Reporting and Response
- Accessible Reporting: Teens and parents can report safety concerns via the app, email info@ellite.com.au. A dedicated teen safety team reviews all reports.
- Confidential Investigations: All incidents are investigated promptly, with outcomes shared with parents/guardians while respecting teen privacy.
- Support Resources: Teens and families affected by incidents have access to counselling referrals and support through our partnerships with youth safety organizations.
- Vehicle and Trip Safety
- Vehicle Standards: Vehicles used for teen rides must pass enhanced safety inspections, ensuring features like functioning seat belts and child safety locks are in place.
- Ride Restrictions: Teens are not permitted to request multi-stop trips or add unverified passengers without parental approval.
- Safe Drop-Offs: Drivers are required to confirm that teens are dropped off at a safe, well-lit location and, if requested, wait until the teen enters their destination.
- Privacy Protections
- Data Security: Teen and parent/guardian data, including trip details, are encrypted and protected per our Privacy Policy and applicable laws.
- Anonymized Communication: Driver-teen communication occurs solely through the app, with no direct phone numbers shared.
- Parental Access: Parents/guardians can access trip history and safety reports but cannot view teen in-app messages without consent, unless required for safety investigations.
- Education and Awareness
- Teen Safety Guides: The app provides interactive tutorials teaching teens how to verify drivers, use safety features, and report issues.
- Parental Resources: Parents receive regular updates and tips on monitoring teen rides and discussing safety.
- Community Outreach: Ellite may partners with schools and youth organizations to promote ride-sharing safety awareness.
- Compliance with Regulations
Ellite complies with all local, state, and national laws regarding the transportation of minors, including age-specific restrictions and parental consent requirements. Region-specific policies are implemented where applicable. - Continuous Improvement
